Nokia E61 Unlocked Smartphone with 3G, Wi-Fi, MP3/Video Player, MiniSD Slot–U.S. Version with Warranty (Silver)

June 13th, 2009

Nokia E61 Unlocked Smartphone with International 3G, Wi-Fi, MP3/Video Player, MiniSD Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (Silver)
Binding: Wireless Phone Accessory
Manufacturer: Nokia
Product Description:
Nokia's E61 is the email oriented member of the new Nokia E-series of devices designed for enterprise business. It assumes the traditional "Blackberry" form factor, and as a Series 60 3rd Edition device, it runs the new Symbian v9.1 operating system. The QWERTY keyboard equipped E60 was designed to provide a great email experience for its user, due to its keyboard and varied push email support that includes: Blackberry Connect, GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail, and Visto Mobile. The E61's multitasking abilities means that you can send and receive email while you are in the middle of a phone call
Amazon.com Hands-On Review:

The E61 is one of Nokia's new business-centric Eseries of devices, and is the first Nokia phone to sport the popular "BlackBerry" form factor that has been so popular in the United States for years. As an Eseries device, the E61 comes complete with remote management capabilities, a SIP compatible Voice Over IP client, as well as support for a large number of push email vendor solutions. The E61 also runs the 3rd edition of the Nokia S60 user interface over top of the Symbian v9.1 operating system, which means that there is a lot of 3rd party application support for the device.

The sleek E61 is all business.

The two most dominating features of the E61 are its large 320x240 pixel display and its equally spacious QWERTY keyboard. The landscape formatted QVGA display is bright and colorful - capable of displaying up to 16 million different color shades. The keyboard makes use of somewhat loose fitting plastic keys that, while seeming a bit cheap at first, are actually quite comfortable to use. Each key is decently large, and there are a number of shift, function, and other keys that allow the user quick access to letters, numbers, symbols, and even foreign characters. Above the keypad are a number of other keys, including two large softkeys, a pair of equally large call send/end keys, a fine joystick, and dedicated menu and messaging app buttons.

As a business oriented device, it is not all that surprising that the Nokia E61 lacks a digital camera of any sort. It does, however, sport a very nice music player application and a miniSD memory card slot. The music player has the ability to sort tracks based on things like artist and album, and allows for the creation of playlists from a PC or directly on the phone. The E61's wonderful web browser is capable of properly rendering just about any site on the internet, thanks to full CSS and javascript support. The browser supports zooming in and out, easy panning around large pages, and a visual back/forward function.

The E61's QWERTY keyboard is easy to type on.

One of the E61's most compelling traits is its support for most of the major wireless networks. For starters, the E61 has fantastic 802.11g WiFi support, for extra fast web browsing and email access. When out of the home or office, EDGE and UMTS 3G data (where available) are also at the user's disposal. In terms of shorter range connections, Bluetooth, USB, and infrared are also available.

The E61's large display and vast capabilities come at a price in terms of power, necessitating the use of a large and somewhat heavy 1500mAh battery in order to obtain its very respectable 8 hours of talk time in our GSM band tests. The E61 can also be used on European UMTS 3G networks as well, but will get slightly less talk time performance when doing so. Audio quality was a bit above average when used in regular calls, but the built-in speakerphone function is one of the best we have ever tested.

While the early E61 that we tested had some quirks with its IMAP email support when configured for automatic download, most corporate users will likely be very pleased with the device's support for the following push email based systems: BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail, and Visto Mobile. The MMS and SMS systems are top notch, and worked as well as the rest of the messaging applications.

Pros:

  • Good keyboard
  • Large display
  • WiFI, UMTS, EDGE, Bluetooth

Cons:

  • Somewhat large/heavy
  • A few IMAP email quirks

With its wide array of connectivity and messaging options, comfortable keyboard, and large display, the Nokia E61 is the perfect companion for corporate raiders busy home office types alike. The built-in applications are all very well done, and the availability of plenty of 3rd party apps will help each individual user fill in any perceived gaps in functionality. In short, the Nokia E61 is an excellent choice for a business centric mobile phone.

Nokia E61a real pleasure to work with
I got my Nokia E61 two weeks ago . At the beginning it looked complex but soon I realize that is a very helpful tool to manage daily tasks.
It is a smartphone and is difficult to master all the function without
some readings but you have a build-in Tutorial that is very useful.
I enjoy very much this smartphone which is more a small computer than a phone and I recommand it warmly.

Review of nokia E61
One of the best phones I have used
Pros: The wi-fi is good, big screen, very good visibility and colour resolution and also the help functions are really great.
Cons: Some downloaded games, freezes the phone and its bulky

Lots of weak spots; come let's take a walk on the "other side" ...
First off the bat, when it comes to the GSM wireless space, nobody does better than the Nokia cell phones. Voice reception is great and is always the best in class (as all other Nokia phones that I have experienced do!); nothing betters it -- iphone, Motorola, Sony Ericsson etc.

Most would have read all the good things about it in the other reviews and they're not lying. But let's have a closer look at the "darker underbelly" of this monster (so to speak)...

MP3 MEDIA PLAYER:
As we all know, this phone plays MP3s and accepts a miniSD Card. So here I am brandishing my 1GB miniSD card all ready for my first MP3 cell phone dreaming of carrying hundreds of songs in my pocket wherever I go ... Perish the thought! Around the time I upload 80 or more songs, the phone starts going crazy; it freezes when you try to access the media player to play the songs, the music library's playlist keeps having amnesia every now and then that you need to keep telling it to update the playlist. And how do you ask it to scan the storage to update the playlist ... you need to go through FOUR layers of menu to reach "update music library". And every day or two you find that the media player's playlist has gone back to either 0 or 7 songs in its playlist.
At 80 songs, it takes forever (ok, about 20 minutes --- but why in the world would you need 20 minutes to update a playlist???) to update its library. The best I could manage was a 110 tracks playlist that went with me for about a week ... and that too it would "happily" turn up with only about 95 of them. I seriously wonder *WHO* wrote the software ... and this is the latest version of the OS that I downloaded from the Nokia website.
Let's just forget about carrying video around.

PICTURE GALLERY:
Upload any large picture about 150KB in size and you are going to have a major problem if you try to access the "Gallery" the phone freezes for at least 5 minutes and you can even get back to the main screen even after pressing the red "hang-up" button. The solution --- wait out the 5 minutes, or press the "magic button" to shut down the phone and restart ... wait this sounds so familiar (CTRL+ALT+DELETE anyone?) and it's not even MS-Windows!

USER INTERFACE RESPONSIVENESS:
The interface is very sluggish to say the least. Access "Notes" and it takes at least a good 1 sec for it open up the notes application. I know you must be saying "1 sec? What's so bad about that superman?" The point is for such a light weight application (and after using any other phone) you expect these things to be instantaneous --- a newbie may think he/she didn't press the button and might even press it harder a second time (I did it quite a few times) ... but I can live with that ! (Can't we all?)

THE MUCH TOUTED SKYPE SUPPORT:
It's over hyped and nothing like it leads you to believe! You don't save any money anyway as it doesn't support VOIP on skype over Wifi. All it allows is for you to initiate a skype call from your computer to your cell phone if you want to make a long distance call through your cell using skype (most probably international since most cell phones have domestic long distance anyways) --- either ways you don't save any money as you spend airtime on receiving the skype call (if it's out of the weekend/night time-band) and you don't need it if it's weekend/nights as you get the free airtime anyways! Besides, you need to have a "skype-out" account which entails a annual subscription fee.

I haven't tried the other VOIP features as it's a paid subscription service.

1-800-DIAL-A-WORD:
The ugly side of the QWERTY keyboard is that it's hard to dial a number listed as 1-800-ACME-HELP since the letters are all set differently. Ergo, you will always need the numeric version or you'll have to work it out yourself which is not such a great thing if you're in a hurry or have frequent attacks of brain-fade.

WISH:
I wish it had support for stereo Bluetooth headphones.

CONCLUSION:
Why do I stick with it, and why 3 stars? Because it does a very good job as a cell phone, its Wifi support is decent and nothing to complain about, it's got a full browser (with RealPlayer support for limited YouTube usage), has full JavaScript support instead of a wimpy WML browser, and the usual battery recharge is about once every 3 to 4 days unless you're in love or terribly home-sick --- then you might have to recharge every single day but that would be the least of your problem once you get your monthly statement (but I digress!).

good phone, but please read before change firmware
got this phone from MCO for pretty low price
it was 3 branded, and the fw is pretty old (1.x), changed product code to Hong Kong version and update, the phone is alot more stable, however, the symbol layout on keyboard changed, that I have to make a sticky on the back to show the difference (be aware of that if you want to change the language)
the screen is big, and in landscape mode, I am pretty impressed how pleasant when browsing internet with this big screen
the keypad is pretty pleasant to key in message, the joystick is easier to use, email button is also handy for checking email (it supports regular POP and secure US Army IMAP, but it doesn't support GMail IMAP)
reception is kinda weak, in the gym locker room, I can make/receive calls with N73, while E61 shows nothing
thanks to the 1500mA/h battery, the battery time is on par with N73
no cam included may be a plus when using in a high secure precinct (where cam is prohibited), then I just use it instead of N73
like other S60 phones, it can retrive WAP/MMS setting right out of SIM, except you have special setting (I have VPN total internet, that I have to put separate APN setting for net browser, realplayer, and tethering)
bt is version 1.2, which is on the slow side, I get about 500kbps when transferring files, while I got 1200kbps on N73
some special tips: go to tools->application manager->options->settings->software installation, use all (default is signed only, that prevents non-nokia application installation)
conclusion: the phone is pretty low price now, get it if you use messaging alot of use alot of internet on your phone, this won't disappoint you; if you decide to change product code to change language, you have to be aware that the symbol on keyboard will be changed

Don't pay retail!
Great phone, but don't buy it here. You'll save a hundred bucks if you order it online directly from Nokia. And free second day shipping.

Dependable little bugger
This phone is intended for a very specific customer - namely one who hates all of the extra junk that is crammed on phones these days. This phone has excellent battery life (I get 5-6 days on a charge), excellent reception, the earpiece and speakerphone are loud and clear, it's Razr thin, and fits very nicely in my pocket.

Negatives are that texting (actually, anything to do with reading text, such as names in address book) is rather difficult to do. 6 letters can be displayed on the screen at a time, so you have to scroll quite a bit to read a text. Next, although this phone is supposed to be virtually indestructible, the battery cover comes out just as easily as on most other phones. So don't test this thing by throwing it around.

And if you get it, try pulling the battery out while it is on. The screen does some nifty stuff.

Good product for the money
It is exactly what it claims to be, a no frills cell phone. If you are looking for a cell phone that is just a cell phone, the Moto Phone F3 is an excellent choice. It also looks cool.

Great basic phone
I've had mine for several months now, using AT&T in Michigan, and am VERY happy with it. The reception in weak signal areas is better than any other phone I have owned, voices are clear and easily understood, the battery life is great- I charge mine about once a week, and the screen is EXCELLENT!!!! I use my phone as a watch, and this is the only phone I have owned since my old monochromatic green screen one that I can read in any light. I would rate the screen a 9/10 and every other phone, even the cool new hi-res color ones, don't get a better rating because I can't see them at a glance in bright light. That said, the screen is limited in resolution so reading any message can become a bit of a chore. Fortunately I essentially never send messages, and receive about as many as I send.
The only serious drawback has been the lack of automatic clock setting. I always trusted my cell phone to be accurate, as it was constantly updated by the network- this one is not, and is not as accurate as I would like.

Still a good phone, and a great one for !

Amazing what buys.
My Razr V3 got washed. The iPhone requires a data plan that I don't want, so for more than the monthly data fee, I went for function. It was the electronic paper display that brought it to my attention and heavily influenced my decision to buy. It provides significant contrast and readability in sunlight. On the "not so up"-side the character set is primitive and large. Texting and even scrolling thru the phonebook is like state-of-the-art 1985 calculator.
*I'd taken to putting my phone in the watch pocket of my jeans or the cargo pocket of my shorts- small size is important in that respect. F3 is 1/2" taller than a folded razr, thinner and not as wide. In all but the shallowest watch pocket it fits great, is easy to retrieve and isn't bulky. It will share a front pocket nicely with my wallet in khakis. It has nice heft without being a lump in the pocket.
*I dropped my sim card and battery in, powered up, denied the voice walk-thru and the time and date set themselves (AT&T)
*Phonebook on sim went to just one number per contact
*Sound and reception just as good as the razr but the mic lacks the passive noise cancelling feature (probably to keep the phone sealed from dust and moisture) so background noises are transmitted a little too well.
*No calendar or calculator, two features that I had become accustomed too.

Bev's Review
THIS PHONE WAS NOT UNLOCKED AS DESCRIBED IN THE AD. I TOOK IT OVERSEAS AND ACTIVATED IT. I BOUGHT A CHIP AND THE PHONE COMPANY TOLD ME THAT THE PHONE WAS NOT UNLOCKED AND THEY DID NOT HAVE THE MANUFACTURER'S CODE TO UNLOCK IT. IT COST ME MONEY TO BUY ANOTHER PHONE. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PR0DUCT TO ANYONE.

Nice phone slow processor
In general the features on this phone are well done. Things are pretty intuitive and well thought out. The display is ok for a smaller display. I really like that key pad is easy to feel and totally closed from dust. Motorola's click/scroll wheel which is intended to be similar to the one found on an ipod is ok but seriously lacks something when compared with an ipod.

My biggest gripe is that the processor on the phone is a bit on the slow side. Every now and then the display looks frozen and the buttons don't do anything. Give the phone a few seconds and it catches up with you, whatever you last typed or the last command you gave the phone actually happens, just after a short delay.

Oh you, call quality is good and (my last phone was a smart phone)I think battery life is fantastic.

If You buy this on Amazon, you are getting a great deal.
I'm just going to sum this phone up in a few sentences. First, it looks great. It has a simple, yet elegant design. Next, it has good performance. While it's not as great as most Sony Ericsson phones, you won't receive too much lag, especially after you add more memory. Lastly, the battery is very good, and easily only needs to be plugged in once a day for an hour or so.

Pros- Decent Music Player

2mp Camera can create high resolution pictures, though they aren't amazing.

True Headphone Jack

2gb On board memory, expandable to 6gb.

Great battery Life

Scroll Wheel:Better than iPod wheel

Cool morphing keyboard.

Cons- Music player lags sometimes

Camera has no flash, and needs one

Faux Buttons are hard to text with, lag sometimes

Durability is questionable; Screen scratches easily; Definately buy a protector

3-d like menu lags to point of uselessness; Use one of the other menu options instead.

OVERALL- I can't really recommend this phone to one specific audience, except for those who want a little bit of everything on their phone, in which case, this is a great buy.

good for music
I researched in the web for several weeks for a good unlocked phone with some real good music. I couldn't figure out which phone to buy but when i got this i knew it was the one I was looking for. With ipod quality music in headset n best in the inbuilt speaker this phone gives you rid of carrying two gadgets in your two pockets. The new keypad system that the motorolla introduced in this phone is real unique.
But if you are looking for a good camera phone its maynot be for you. The 2 megapixel camera is not so worthy and gives an average quality picture.
Over all its not so expensive so guys go for it n give a try. You will then have a most coolest phone among your frens(provided non of your frens have iphone) just kiding......

Love the phone, but there's a catch...
I've had this phone for about 4 months now and I have to say that I really like it. The look of the phone is really appealing, and the interface is really quite new and different. Navigation is pretty smooth and intuitive (when it isn't lagging, more on that later) and I love the way the keys change depending on what mode your in. Call quality is crisp and loud. The display is very good quality and album images and text appear clear and sharp. The mp3 player on this phone is one of the best I've heard. I connect it to my car stereo and, as far as audio is concerned, it even blows away the Creative Zen I had before. Even the built in speakers are pretty good and don't sound as hollow and tiny as other phones.

Now for the bad. The reason I only gave this phone 3 stars is because of two pretty big issues. The first is the 2mp camera. For 2megapixels this produces some awuful shots. The colors are washed out, blurry, and grainy no matter what light you're in. Even the 1.3mp camera on my TMobile Dash took better pictures. Much much better pictures. The other issue is this ... the phone has 2GB of built in memory, but beware of using it to store songs. The built in memory is touchy at best. Some songs transferred to the phone mem just flat out wouldn't work. On top of that, putting songs on the phone memory causes the phone to experience some serious lagging. And it can get pretty bad, even hanging and lagging during calls. Forget calling any company that asks you to hit a series of mumbers to get to the right department, and punching in something like an account # is a nightmare. The only reason I didn't mark off heavily for this feature is because if you put songs on the micro sd only this seems to solve the problem. But you do have to set the phone to keep the phone memory seperate from the memory card. If it shares then it's the same issue.

So, a good mp3 phone, cool interface, but bad pictures and make sure you upgrade the free 1gb micro sd stick because the 2GB on the phone is pretty useless. Maybe a firmware upgrade will fix that later.

Its beauty is only skin deep.
This is a beautiful phone - sturdy, yet sleek. The buttons are really not an issue (see some outside reviews). However-the call quality and signal reception is only so-so, and the speakerphone is useless due to its low volume, even when set on the highest volume. The ringer volume is mediocre. The earphone volume seemed fine. The WIFI works flawlessly and the web browser is great.

If you live in an area with consistently good cell phone signals, don't use the speakerphone at all, and are satisfied with so-so voice quality, get this phone. Otherwise - skip it. I ended up sending two of these back, and sprung for an N-95 instead. Now THAT'S a great Nokia phone!

Beware!
When you buy something, especially something expensive, such as an electronic merchandise, you would want to be ensured that the item is brand new.

The best indicator of a brand new product is the seal of the box/package of it. You would be the very first person who will break the seal and open the box. There is no way to re-seal it.

Sealed boxes is a commonly seen implementation especially in the electronics industry, particularly in cell phone, laptop, camera&camcorder industry.

However, in these industries, not every manufacturer seals the box. Only the most reputable ones do this. Such as, Nokia does this for cell phones, Sony does this for cameras&camcorders et cetera.

I am a Nokia fan. I purchased 2 N95s, an E90, an E65 brown to myself and my relatives and family. All of these were from the Nokia Flagship Store in NYC so I had the opportunity to see whether the box is sealed or not. One of the N95s was from amazon.com, and it was sealed as well.

However, this last E65 came with an unsealed box. I don't mean that it came with a broken seal (which would show that the phone was used already). It did not come with a seal at all.

Instead of amazon.com I called Nokia Flagship Store in NYC and one sales associate told me that not all distibuters' boxes are sealed.

At this point I don't know whether this was previously used and returned phone or whether this was a phone on display in some stores et cetera. All I know is that the manuals, cables etc. were not placed well (as if it was placed in the factory) and everything was tucked into the box.

Anyhow, it comes with 1 year US Nokia warranty. That is for sure. And this phone is going to a relative overseas. So I will (have to) keep it. There is no way I would keep this if I bought it to myself. Shame on Nokia!

Samsung D830 Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Black)
Binding: Wireless Phone Accessory
Manufacturer: Samsung
Product Description:
The Samsung SGH-D830 Ultra thin flip phone features a 2 megapixel camera with auto focus and a large 2.3" 320x240 pixels 262K color TFT display. With 80MB internal memory and a microSD memory slot for expansion it is hard to believe that this weighs in at only 85g. The D830 features tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support and a sleek 1-line external monochrome display all in a phone that is a meare 9.9mm in depth.
Amazon.com Product Description:
If you need the thinnest clamshell available, here it is. Not only is the SGH-D830 delightfully svelte, it also boasts an impressive list of features, including a large 2.3-inch display, a two-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, support for EDGE high speed data, and 80 MB of internal memory. You also get a microSD/TransFlash expansion slot, TV output, and Bluetooth. All of this fits into a handset that's just .3 inches thick.

The super chic D830 is almost invisible when turned sideways.

A big color screen offers plenty of real estate for multimedia, games, and mobile Web browsing.
Design
The D830 sports a classic clamshell design that features a small 96 x 16 grayscale display on the outside of the cover for displaying call information, battery life, signal strength, and more. Inside the flip you'll find a massive, 240 x 320 display supports up to 262,000 colors -- plenty of resolution and color depth for your videos and photos. A five-way center control button is positioned below the display, as are shortcut and selection keys. The phone's two-megapixel camera and flash unit is housed just above the external display, while USB data and charging ports are located on the phone's bottom edge. As mentioned, there's also a microSD card slot provided on the exterior of the phone for memory expansion.

Calling Features
With 80 MB of internal memory, the D830 is designed to hold all the contacts, phone numbers and addresses you can throw at it (up to a 1000 of them, to be precise). A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls, and in addition to a vibrating alert, the D830 supports polyphonic ringtones and MP3-based music ringtones. A speakerphone lets you talk hands-free while you're doing other things, and picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. And because the D830 supports Bluetooth, you can use your favorite wireless headset with it.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The D830 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the D830, too. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the new, high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with your carrier's data service and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. There's also a built-in browser for downloads and mobile Web browsing. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile text messaging users.

A number of handy productivity tools are bundled with the D830 including a voice memo recorder, an alarm clock, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar, and a to-do list. And because the D830 supports the SyncML synchronization standard, you can easily sync your PC-based contacts. There's even a document viewer for opening attachments, as well as a Bluetooth printing system for printing documents from the handset.

Imaging and Entertainment
The D830's built-in two-megapixel camera captures stills and video to the phone's internal memory, or to a microSD memory card. You can use the phone's TV output to display your photos and videos on a TV screen. Into music? You're in luck with the D830. Store your favorite MP3-, AAC-, or AAC+-based music on the D830 and listen whenever the feeling strikes you. When you want to jam out in private you can hook up a Bluetooth wireless stereo headset. Lastly, if you want to dress up the D830, picture effects, custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be set to fit your personality.

Java support is built into the D830, making it a powerful gaming companion. You can also use the handset's USB data connection to load more games and files onto the phone.

Cool Phone, great features but a few minor setbacks
if you are really into thin phones.. this is the one for you (thinner than razor) but you'll have to sacrifice functions such as short batt life (approx 36hrs on standby w/ a few calls)and soft speakerphone volume...and for some you have to get used to the keypad.

Could use more features...
The phone arrived right on schedule from the supplier. I've always liked Samsung phones because of their simplicity so I decided to buy the D830. This phone comes with a software CD, data cable, charger cable and headset, which I might add is perfectly equalised and gives off a near "surround-sound system" quality for your music.

I received 3 versions of the manaul with the phone in 3 different languages EXCEPT English. Even though the phone is advertised as the 'slimmest' it's still a little on the large side in terms of height and width. The volume of the phone itself (without the earpiece) is low outdoors even when you turn up the volume to the maximum, so if you have trouble hearing, you'll definitely have trouble hearing clearly.

When you miss a call, the caller ID on the front of the phone does not alert you. So you can't see right away that you've missed a call unless you open the phone to check.

Other than those disadvantages, the phone itself is a good showpiece and overall a trendy design.

Got it yesterday and i love it already
I ve got this phone yesterday for my wife and i got it in stylish red color it is the ULTRA edition 9.9,she loved the design the first minute she has seen it .The only issue about the phone is that it has came from France, and the manual is all in French. It took me about 10 minutes to find English in the menu and 15 minutes after that to set up the whole thing.A large and bright diplay allows you to scroll down the easiest menu i've ever seen,it's packed with features i need and i like. Great phone.

Great Phone
Bought this phone about 2 weeks ago, it is a great phone. Excellent reception (have not lost a signal yet), a host of features, light, and slim. The bluetooth works well, MP3 player is good as is the built in camera. The user interface is very intuitive, you don't have to read any manuals to get it up and going on the functions. Lots of extras with this phone. I would highly recommend it, especially over the Motorola V3I or the Razr, the 830 is much easier to use, better looking and much slimmer than the Motorola offerings.

Nice phone, but flat keypad is a pain to use
I just got this phone a few days ago to replace my broken SonyEricsson Z520a. I'm attracted to this Samsung because of the thin form factor and pretty impressive spec.

But the first time I used it, I was totally disappointed. My biggest complaint is the flat keypad. The keypad doesn't give you enough tactile feedback when you press it. And for some reasons some keys are harder to press than the others. This really annoys me since I text message a lot.

Other than the keypad, this is a very nice phone. The screen is high resolution (320 x 240) and very bright. IMHO the user interface is not as intuitive as Sony Ericsson's.

I tried Bluetooth on this phone and was able to transfer my phonebook from my laptop without a hitch.

But for me, the keypad is the killer. That's the reason I rated it 2 stars. This phone is going back to Amazon for sure.

Minor Flaws taint all of the good
I liked everything that I read about this phone and as reviewers often say: I really wanted it to work. But: 1) While I am able to make calls, send text, and take decent photographs...the phone will not access the internet via ATT network. I know that if I talk to the right tech people, they can get the software to work properly. But this was just one malfunction.2) The phone only displays the 3-digit area code for numbers that are on the call-log, the phone memory, and the sim memory. It will dial the right numbers and tell you the right names if the number is saved, but there is no way to view all 10 digits.Customer support at Nokia could only offer me a send-in for repair and not a way to instal working software on this brand-new phone. ATT tech guys were stumped; they had not seen anything like this. It's too bad because the 6500c has the perfect design and everything else works beautifully. I would not want to risk ordering another one...I'm thinking that this deal of having problems with unlocked phones is common, based on all of the reviews that I have read for the myriad of unlocked makes and models.Think I'll try to buy a phone at ATT and have them unlock it there so i may travel, if that is possible.
